The chain nose is for a harder to control horse, for bigger pens and harder ground to give you extra rate. It will give you more control with a check and release cue when you rate. The stiffer the noseband the stiffer your horse. So be sure that after you compete to use one of the flexing bits so your horse will stay soft and supple.
